Skyline Aviation and our founding director, Mike Toogood were instrumental in establishing the dedicated rescue helicopter service in Hawke's Bay in 1992 and have established a long term partnership as the service provider for the Hawke's Bay Helicopter Rescue Service.
Skyline own and operate the BK117 (IBK) helicopter for the service.
It is based at the Hawke's Bay Regional Hospital campus in a purpose built facility and provides a 24/7 365-day air rescue / air ambulance service.
The rescue helicopter is fully equipped to the highest industry standards, including life support systems, 2 person rescue hoist, forward looking infra-red camera (FLIR) and 30 million candle power night sun light.
The service is one of the first in New Zealand to operate using Night Vision Goggles, which enables us to operate safely at night and in more challenging conditions.
We also provide a well equipped back up AS 350BA Squirrel helicopter (ZK-HFZ) which is also based at the HB Regional Hospital.
The range of services provided include primary response for accident and critically ill patients, search and rescue including off-shore rescue capabilities, inter-hospital transfers throughout New Zealand, Police operations support, fire fighting and Civil Defence support.
